For
more than 7 years, the World Public Library has pioneered Internet
library services with revolutionary ideas. Established in
1996, the World Public Library was one of the first to publicly
support classic children's and young adult literature in an
electronic book file, one of the first Internet libraries
to promote the conversion of the HTML eBook format to the
PDF eBook file format, and one of the first to create an Internet
library consortium. Today, the World Public Library has 65
consortia members; together we have combined our individual
collections to create a world class free Internet Public Access
Section to all HTML eBook and an optional member supported
PDF eBook section. Our award-winning website and online books
featuring priceless reproductions of digitally re-mastered
classic literature, photographs, movies, and music has continued
to raise the standards of excellence in the field of digital
publishing. Each year, the World Public Library nearly doubles
its entire digital holdings. Boasting over 500,00+ eBooks
and eDocuments, making the World Public Library Consortium
the world's largest eBook site. More than one 15 million Internet
patrons have visited our library, making us one of the most
visited libraries in the world. Since our initial launch time
our webservers have had a 99.98% up time 24 hours a day, 7
days a week and in all of that time our programs and files
have been free and open to the public. At the World Public
Library, eBooks are just the beginning.
