List of Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan episodes

The anime series, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, known in Japan as Nurarihyon no Mago (ぬらりひょんの孫?, lit., "Grandson of Nurarihyon"). The opening themes are Fast Forward and Sunshine, both of which are performed by Monkey Majik and the endings themes are Sparky☆Start and Symphonic Dream performed by Katate Size (Aya Hirano, Yui Horie and Ai Maeda). The anime is slated to be released on eight DVDs. This anime has 24 episodes and 2 recap episodes according to official site.[1] However Viz Media counted recap episodes and aired the series as 26 episodes long. A second season has been announced. The opening themes are Hoshi no Arika and The LOVE SONG, both of which are performed by LM.C and the endings themes are Orange Smile and Departure performed by Katate Size (Aya Hirano, Yui Horie and Ai Maeda).[2]

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan began broadcasting in the United States and Canada on Viz Media's online network, Neon Alley, on October 2, 2012.

All the yōkai want him to assume the leadership of the Nura Clan, but he just wants to be a normal human. His classmate Kiyotsugu invites Rikuo to come with them to the old school building. That building is said to be haunted by yōkai. They set out to investigate whether the building is really haunted by yōkai or not.[5]

An old ally of the Nura Clan visits to have a discussion about Rikuo's role as the future head of the Nura Clan. Zen has been a long-time supporter of the Nura Clan and a play-mate of Rikuo when he was little. Zen is a yōkai with a weak constitution - their family has lent the Nura Clan their support in return for protection. Rikuo once again evades the question, explaining he does not wish to become their leader and Zen leaves doubting the future of the Nura Clan.

A new student Yura, joins Rikuo's class. She knows a lot about yōkai and can sense their presence. Rikuo's friends decide to form a paranormal investigation group and decide to have the inaugural ceremony at Rikuo's house since they've heard rumors of it being haunted. Much comedy ensues while they explore his house against his wishes. It is revealed that Yura is an onmyōji when the group is attacked by a rat. While Kana and Yura are heading home they are attacked by a group of yōkai.

The head of the rat clan who kidnapped the girls lures Rikuo to his lair. There he demands that Rikuo should write a letter abdicating his position as the head. On his way back he meets up with Ryota Neko the head of the cat clan who is being chased by minions of the rat clan. Once home he writes the letter that he has been ordered to while Ryota Neko sleeps. Upon hearing that Rikuo plans on giving up his position Ryota Neko despite being severely injured heads off to fight. Rikuo, upon seeing this is moved and his night form takes over.

Rikuo has taken ill following the overuse of his powers. Tsurara is nursing him back to health when his friends visit. Kana is confused about the nature of the relationship between Rikuo and Tsurara. Kiyotsugu informs Rikuo that they are going on a trip. On reaching their destination Rikuo learns that the mountain is the domain of Gyuki - a member of his clan and the person responsible for trying to kill Rikuo.

Rikuo and his friends reach the mountain retreat. While the girls are in the onsen, Rikuo, the boys and Tsurara set off to look for spirits. Kana decides to follow them since she's jealous of the relationship between Rikuo and Tsurara share. Meanwhile Gyuki orders his minions to kill them all. After being separated from the group Tsurara is attacked. Just as she's about to be killed Rikuo saves her.

Yura is busy protecting the girls in the onsen when 3 new yōkai appear. They defeat the attackers in short order. Aotabo manages to find Rikuo's two friends and returns them to the inn. Meanwhile Rikuo is fighting Gozumaru who tried to kill Tsurara. As Kana is walking up the stairs looking for Rikuo she's sees a ghostly light and gets scared. It's actually Rikuo carrying Tsurara. He leaves Tsurara with Kana and heads off to find Gyuki.

Gyuki's past is revealed. As a human he was once known as Umewakamaru. Umewakamaru is a noble child who excels at everything. After his father dies, his mother leaves him at a monastery. News of his mother's illness prompts Umewakamaru to want to see her. On the way he is tricked by demons into going the wrong way. There he finds out his mother has been devoured by the yōkai Gyuki. Umewakamaru goes mad with grief and kills the demon Gyuki and in this state he takes to killing other travelers. In time he also comes to be known as Gyuki. It is here that Rikuo's grandfather, Nurarihyon, meets him for the first time and after defeating Gyuki in battle requests that he join them as a member of their family.

Rikuo defeats Gyuki. Gyuki decides to commit suicide as atonement for going against the clan, but because he had the clan's best interest at heart Rikuo stops him. At the next general meeting of the clan Rikuo announces his intention to succeed his grandfather and pardons Gyuki for his conduct.

When Kana was six she looked into a mirror possessed by a yōkai that promised to take her away on her thirteenth birthday. Kana gets trapped in the mirror world but is able to tell her friends about her predicament through a spirit doll that was a gift from Kiyotsugu. Rikuo manages to save Kana at the last minute. Kana, on the way home, now in love with Rikuo's "night" form, wants to know more about him. He takes her to a yōkai hangout. In the morning, Kana asks Rikuo if Rikuo's "night" form is his friend.

Hihi, an elder of the Nura Clan, is killed while investigating an incident in Demon Cat Alley. Because of this Rikuo and the elders have to put up with more bodyguards. Nurarihyon encounters Yura while walking around town. Yura, who is experiencing a crisis in confidence about her beliefs begins to open up to Nurarihyon. While they are having this conversation, Hihi's assassin attacks. Yura leaps to Nurarihyon's defense thinking he is but a simple old man.

Nurarihyon kills the yōkai that attacked them while Yura is distracted. After the fight he disappears to look into this incident. While Rikuo is heading home he runs into Tamazuki, the figure behind all the attacks. Tamazuki informs Rikuo of his plan to take over and destroy the Nura Clan.

As the battle progresses, Rikuo makes his way up the commander of the enemy side; Tamazaki. The two spar for a bit, but Rikuo is finally brought to his knees as one of Tamazaki's subordinates, Yosuzume, sneaks up and touches him, therefore making everything seem dark, blinding him. At the same time, Tsurara hurriedly searches for Rikuo, whom she lost at the beginning of the battle. Tamazaki asks Rikuo to join him, but Rikuo refuses. In rage, Tamazaki tries to kill Rikuo, attempting to slice him. Just in the nick of time, Tsurara intervines, blocking his blow. Yosuzume then touches Tsurara, blinding her as well as the rest of the battling yōkai. Then Tsurara and Rikuo then work together to defeat them, Tsurara being the one to finish it and breaking the spell by freezing Yosuzume.

Rikuo and his clan fought with the tenacious Shikoku Yokai that are adamant in conquering Rikuo's Fear. However, the Shikoku Yokai's leader, Tamazaki mercilessly killed his own comrades with the Mao's Hammer in order to absorb their strengths and wield it as his own. In an act to obtain victory, Inugami abducted Kana and held her as a hostage. Nevertheless, Kana was rescued and Inugami slaughtered by Tamazaki. Hence, Rikuo and his allies need to fight Tamazaki, who now has acquired ultimate strength.

In Rikuo's past, Rikuo's father Rihan Nura is seen walking with a five-year-old Rikuo and a mysterious black-haired girl. As Rikuo runs ahead, Rihan stops to observe his surroundings; suddenly, the girl stabs him from behind, killing him, while Rikuo can only look on in shock. Three years later, Rikuo is shown playing pranks on his yōkai family and learning the yōkai art of "dine-and-dash" with his grandfather, Nurarihyon. In a meeting with the yōkai leaders of the Nura Clan, Nurarihyon made an official announcement, declaring that his grandson would become the next heir; however, Rikuo is against this due to an encounter with his friends, who claimed that all yōkai are evil and upon hearing the evil deeds of the clan leaders towards humans. On the way home from school his classmates were involved in an accident on their bus, the cause being a group of yōkai from the Nura Clan that sends children to the depths of hell. In order to save them, Rikuo transforms into his yōkai form for the first time and leads his own Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, claiming to all that he would become the Third Heir of the Nura Clan and declaring that he will protect humans.

Two mysterious men arrive in Ukiyoe Town. It is later revealed that they are Ryuji and Mamiru Keikain, Yura's older brother and childhood friend. They have come to find Yura. During the search, they encounter Aotabo and manage to defeat him. Meanwhile, the Kiyojuji Paranormal Patrol is having another yōkai search, but they soon realize that Yura has not been attending school recently. They decide to search for her instead. Rikuo finds her training in an abandoned place. Moments later, Ryuji appears. He realizes that Rikuo is a yōkai. At first, Yura doesn't believe her brother and tries to protect Rikuo but she is defeated. Seeing her struggle while protecting him, Rikuo decides to transform into his "night" self to help his friend. 
3 "Yura Keikain's Assent"[8]

The battle between Ryuji and Rikuo begins. Ryuji uses his ultimate weapon and challenges Rikuo - if he manages to survive in three minutes, there would be a chance that Rikuo might win. Rikuo manages to survive but he is severely injured. Believing that Rikuo can't move as fast as before, Ryuji attacks him. He is tricked by Rikuo, who slashes at him. Mamiru suddenly attacks in order to protect Ryuji, but Rikuo's yōkai comrades appear to protect their master. Surprisingly, Ryuji gets up and asks himself why he isn't wounded. He realizes that Rikuo uses a sword that only cuts a yōkai. He decides to leave the battle between them and told Yura why he was there. After the battle, Yura asks Rikuo whether he is a human or not. He replies that he is a human by day and a yōkai by night but still the same Nura, even if he does seem different. 
4 "Nurarihyon and Yohime"[8]

400 years ago, the Nura Clan was starting to become the most feared clan in the land. They're different from the other yōkai clans because they protect humans as well. During this era, there was a beautiful woman named Yohime. She is said to be "God's gift" because of her power to cure any kind of illness and injuries. Yohime's power was abused by her father - all people who wanted to be cured needed to pay huge amounts of money. Yohime's father also controlled her movements and isolated her at home. Yohime was unable to see the outside world. As the news of her beauty and special healing powers spread, she became the new target of the Kyoto Yokai. The Kyoto yokai want to offer her liver to their leader, Hagoromo Gitsune. Nurarihyon also heard about Yohime and becomes interested in her. In the evening, Nurarihyon appears in Yohime's room. This is the first meeting between Rikuo's grandparents. One night, Nurarihyon takes Yohime outside the mansion and brings her to the Nura Clan hideout in order to introduce Yohime to his comrades. To their surprise, Nurarihyon asks her to be his wife. However, Yohime doesn't answer. Instead she insists that he not visit her again in the mansion. The following night Yohime's mansion is attacked by yōkai and all of the onmyōji looking after her were killed. There is only one survivor. Nurarihyon arrives, wondering what happened. The lone surviving onmyōji reveals that Yohime had been captured by Hagoromo Gitsune's clan.

Nurarihyon rushes to Osaka Castle to save Yohime. He challenges Hagoromo Gitsune and her clan and manages to defeat her with the help of his Hundred Demons and Hidemoto, the 13th head of the Keikain family. After that, Nurarihyon became the "Lord of Pandemonium" and his clan the most powerful clan of all. Yohime realizes that she is in love with Nurarihyon and decides to stay by his side for her entire life. 
6 "The Tono Story"[8]

Rikuo is desperate to go to Kyoto to save Yura and avenge the death of his father. Nurarihyon is left no choice but to send his grandson to Tono Village to train him and improve his skills to the next level. With Rikuo's current skill ability, he will never be able to defeat Hagoromo Gitsune and at worst, he might die. In the village, he meets new friends who help him discover his own self, as well as better understand what being Nurarihyon means. 
7 "Kyoka Suigetsu"[9]

Rikuo's training continues. At the same time, Kyoto Yokai come to Tono Village to ask Akagappa, the leader of the village, to help Hagoromo Gitsune fulfill her goal. Akagappa refuses to help them. The Kyoto Yokai are preparing to leave the place when they spot Rikuo and attempt to kill him. During the fight, Rikuo realizes what is the real power of the yokai nurarihyon and manages to cut the fear of his enemy. The enemies retreat and leave a message that they will see each other again and in that time they will surely defeat him together with his clan and all onmyōji. The invasion of Hagoromo Gitsune is finally started.

At the Seieji Temple, the 5th seal is broken. Only three seals remain before Hagoromo Gitsune is able to achieve her goal. Yura and Mamiru was under the hard training of Ryuji while the other onmyōji, Akifusa, Masatsugu and Pato, the guardian of Nijo Castle, Sokokuji Temple, Rokukinji Temple (1st, 2nd and 3rd seals) are doing their ultimate plan to kill Hagoromo Gitsune at the Nishihoganji Temple (fourth seal). After hearing that skilled onmyōji are taken down one by one, Rikuo decide to go back in the Nura Clan together with his new friends they need to meet his night parade of demons and gain powerful comrades that will come him in Kyoto.

Tsurara and Aotabo reach Kyoto as they meet Yura, who rescues the Kiyojuji Paranormal Patrol from a Kyoto Yokai attack. Meanwhile the Sokokuji Temple (second seal) is under attack from an unexpected enemy, Akifusa. Yura comes to reinforce the second seal defense and is almost killed by Akifusa but Ryuji intervenes. 
10 "Hagun"[9]

Hagoromo Gitsune took the advantage of Akifusa's envy for Yura and converted Akifusa into her night parade of demons to destroy Keikain barriers. After Ryuji defeated Akifusa, he discovered that Akifusa was possessed by Minagoroshi Jizo, who stabbed Ryuji at the leg. Hagoromo Gitsune and her night parade appeared at scene and Ryuji was about be killed by Akifusa only to be saved by Yura and Mamiru. Yura uses her Hagun technique which she had mastered but didn't know how to use it. Hidemoto appears and guides Yura in using the technique which purges the possessed Akifusa. Hidemoto makes a smoke screen to allow Yura and other onmyoji to retreat from the second seal area due the disadvantageous situation. Meanwhile, conflict broke out between Itaku and Kubinashi as the flying ship boarded by the Nura Clan and the Tono Village members as they were moving toward Kyoto. 
11 "Battle Above Kyoto"[10]

Itaku and Kubinashi continued fighting each other until Zen intervened and restored order on the ship. Hakuzozu, the gatekeeper of Kyoto attacks the flying ship with a massive yōkai army and challenges Rikuo for a duel. Rikuo defeats him with his new techniques and destroying the Dakini, Hakuzozu's weapon. Hakuzozu pleads to kill him but Rikuo spares him and asks him to join his side. But before that, the massive yōkai army begins to attack the flying ship as it nears the dark outskirts of Kyoto. 
12 "Long-Standing Wish"[10]

Rikuo and his clan landed on a river in downtown Kyoto. Hakuzozu refuses to join Rikuo but inform the location of the Fushime Inari Shirne (eighth seal), the first stop of Hagoromo Gitsune's invasion. As Rikuo and his Night Parade fighting through yōkai after yōkai, Yura, Hidemoto and other onmyōji are at the onmyōji headquarters to discuss a battle plan to defeat Hagoromo Gitsune by using Hagun together with Nenekirimaru. Tsurara burst into the meeting to inform the Nura Clan aid is on their way.

13 "Torii Labyrinth"[10]

This episode opens up with Rikuo and his Night Parade going to the summit of the Forest of Torii. Once at the summit Awashima picks up a rock and unknown to anyone in the group except Kurotabo is instantly tagged to be spirited away. After the parade walks a little further in the Torii, Awashima is spirited away by a boy and the Nijunanamen Senju Mukade. So Awashima is spirited away by Mukade and the boy. Once in the realm of Mukade, Awashima's leg is grabbed and pulled into a small Torii. She sees an arm come out of one of the Torii and try to cut her head off. It misses and immediately goes to cut off her leg. After a bit of Awashima getting sliced to ribbons with Mukade's arms coming out of all the mini Torii. She is given a glimmer of hope when Kurotabo pierces Mukade's world but is unable to help any further. Awashima then remembers what Amezo said to him about some yōkai being invincible in their own territories, and that when that happens find the source of their power and stop it. Awashima realizing that the more the boy cries the stronger Mukade gets she goes over and comforts the boy making Mukade lose his fear. Then with a quick dance she defeats Mukade and leaves the Forest of The Lost only to realize no one knew she was gone. Then Hidemoto comes and sees Rikuo and tells the Night Parade what they have to do to defeat Hagoromo Gitsune. Hidetomo planned that all eight seals forms into a spiral to lure Hagoromo Gitsune into the Nijo Castle (first seal). Suddenly, Tsuchigumo came to allied forces to challenge the strongest forces. 
14 "An Ayakashi to Avoid"

Tsuchigumo defeats Rikuo and his Night Parade repeatedly as Rikuo tries to fight again. Unfortunately, daylight comes and Rikuo goes back to his human form but dares to fight again. Impressed from what Tsuchigumo had seen, he takes Tsurara as hostage to fight him again at their next duel at Sokokuji Temple. At the Nijo Castle area (first seal), Hagoromo Gitsune enters Nuegaike Pond where the seal is located and yet to be broken. Gyuki and Great Tengu of Mount Kurama comes to Kyoto to train Rikuo for the incoming decisive battle.

Hagoromo Gitsune breaks the first seal and starts to gather human livers for the birth of Nue. While Rikuo's training is ongoing, the parade recollects from sinking morale. Kubinashi gone berserk from the trauma, goes on a raid at Hashira Villa (seventh seal which would be reseal later) to kill Kyoto yōkai. Kejoro follow him to the Ryuenji Temple (sixth seal) where Kubinashi and Ibaraki Doji duel. At the onmyōgi headquarters, Akifusa duels with Shokera after its killing spree on Yura's grandfather and their crack onmyōji.

Akifusa and Aotabo intensely fights against Shokera to protect the Kiyojuji Paranormal Patrol. At Ryuenji Temple, Kubinashi and Kejoro gave Ibaraki Doji a taste of defeat but his stupa fall unleashes his power tenfold added to Kidomaru's aid making it difficult for the pair to defeat them. Suddenly, a seal from Yura and Hidetomo shoots into the ground. Yura and Hidetomo has already resealed the Fushime-Inari Shirne, Hashira Villa, then Ryuenji Temple (eighth, seventh and sixth seals) to start trapping Hagoromo Gitsune at the Nijo Castle area (first seal).

Kidomaru defeated Yura is almost captured her for Hagoromo Gitsune's food only to be save by Ryuji, Mamiru, Kurotabo and Kappa. Kappa takes Yura, Kubinashi and Kejoro to the onmyōji headquarters where Akifusa and Aotabo defeated Shokera. Yura's grandfather is on verge of death, calls Yura to pass down the authority of the Keikain House to her. Ryuji, Mamiru and Kurotabo retreats from fighting Kidomaru and Ibaraki Doji due to their tenacity. Rikuo's training is still ongoing but during one night a group of Kyoto Yokai attacks Rikuo, Zen, Gozumaru and Mezumaru. Gozumaru and Mezumaru frees from the scene as leaving the sworn brothers fighting. After an intense argument, Rikuo lets Zen fight their enemies. Suddenly, as Zen's wings appeared, huge amount of Fear absorbs Rikuo's Nenekirimaru blade.

After Rikuo mastered the Matoi technique, the allied counterattack begins. Rikuo and his Night Parade took the Seieji, Nishihoganji, Rokukinji temples (fifth, fourth and third seals) which resealed and heads straight to rescue Tsurara at Sokokuji Temple (second seal). Tsurara was target by other Kyoto yōkai but Tsuchigumo defends her for she is his prey. Due to hopelessness feeling, Tsurara tries to commit suicide but Rikuo and others came in a nick of time. Rikuo gains Tsurara's trust and together they fought using the Matoi technique. They severed one of Tsuchigumo's arms but only to get him hell bent on fighting Rikuo. Tsuchigumo seals the fighting area with strong spider threads along the posts. Tsuchigumo repeatedly beats Rikuo but doesn't appeared mauled. Tsurara, Zen and Tono allies leaps over the spider barrier to aid Rikuo.

Rikuo once again uses the Matoi technique, but to whom would he pair with. Tsurara declines as she discovered she's not the only one. Awashima volunteers but Rikuo picks Itaku but refuses. Itaku gives in second time together with Rikuo defeated Tsuchigumo. Tsuchigumo tells Rikuo that Nue will be soon conceived. At the Nuegaike Pond, Hagoromo Gitsune will conceive Nue soon. Suddenly, Nurarihyon came into the eagle's nest to find the answers to his son's murder. Nurarihyon can't duel with Hagoromo Gitsune due to his old age and wants to confirm that she was behind on his son's murder. Hagoromo Gitsune's son, Nue, speaks in Hagoromo Gitsune's body, begs for more food. Distracted, enemies popping up around Nurarihyon, encircling him. Gashadokuro comes to the Nuegaike Pond to capture Karasu Tengu, who rescues Nurarihyon but were blinded by Yosuzume. Nurarihyon was stabbed by the Maō's Hammer as he identifies it. Nurarihyon uses his Fear to make himself invisible and identifies the perpetrator, Minagoroshi Jizo. He then escaped and went into a water-filled moat. Kidomaru informs the rest of the Kyoto Yokai that Hagoromo Gitsune is going on a labor. At the same time, Rikuo and his Night Parade are approaching the foot of Nijo Castle.

After slaying Hagoromo Gitsune's minions, the allied forces of the Nura Clan and the Keikain House storm into the castle and were stopped by Kidomaru. Kidomaru trapped the in Ranjomom Gate, where is the hometown of Kidomaru. Kidomaru defeats Rikuo and Tsurara as they try to pair up. Kurotabo volunteers to use Matoi with Rikuo defeating Kidomaru. But Kidomaru has last trick on his sleeves as the Ranjomom Gate itself attacks the pair.

Kidomaru is finally defeated by Rikuo and Kurotabo, but it was too late. Nue and Hagoromo Gitsune comes out levitating on top of the Nijo Castle. Mamiru and Ryuji distracts Hagoromo Gitsune to seal Nue only to block by Tsuchigumo's lust of fighting Nue. Rikuo rescues Ryuji and duels with Hagoromo Gitsune. Minagoroshi Jizo hold the Maō's Hammer as he tries to scrams Tsuchigumo.

Ibaraki Doji and Kyokotsu were by Kubinashi and Kejoro with Jami and Aotabo. The battle between Hagoromo Gitsune and Rikuo continues until Hagoromo Gitsune pins down Rikuo. Hagoromo Gitsune is about to kill Rikuo until her host's memories, Yamabuki Otome, came to her mind that make her disturbed. Leaving an opening, Rikuo pairs with Yura together they slay Hagoromo Gitsune. Unfortunately, Abe no Seimei or Nue finally comes out of his cocoon. Hagoromo Gitsune realizes that it was Seimei and Minagoroshi Jizo who pulls the string behind her. Seimei hugs his mother Hagoromo Gitsune and sends her to hell. Tsuchigumo spring out duel to with Abe no Seimei.

Tsuchigumo was sent by Seimei to hell. Gyuki and the others, under Nurarihyon's order, are holding against Seimei. Past reveals on what happened on Rihan's murder. Abe no Seimei and Sanmoto Gorozaemon plotted their revenge by using Soul Rebirth on Yamabuki Otome on her younger form to resemblance of her misconceived daughter with Hagoromo Gitsune's soul. While little Rikuo is away, Rihan recited the poem which it was the trigger to his assassination. Rikuo, together with the Nura Clan and the Tono yōkai to fight Abe no Seimei but they attack in piecemeal fashion. Rikuo decides to change using the Matoi technique with the support of his Night Parade of Hundred Demons.

Rikuo attacks Nue with his Night Parade of a Hundred Demons by using the Matoi tecnique, after which Nue's body starts to fall apart. Nue and his followers go to hell so Nue's body can be completed and adjust to the human world. Everyone is happy for the victory. Rikuo claims he wants to become stronger anyway possible and that he wants his grandfather to make him the Third Heir to the Nura Clan. Unfortunately, Hidemoto and Nurarihyon discuss on their future war against Seimei before his preparations are completed after a year. They all return home where Rikuo dreams that he, his grandfather and his father are together. When he wakes up he goes in the meeting room where Nurarihyon informs to all that there will be an all-out war against Nue clan and its retainers. Rikuo tells everyone that he wont let demons hurt humans anymore and that all demons have to follow the code of honor, that is the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons he will lead.
