Todmorden High School is a comprehensive school in the town of Todmorden, West Yorkshire, England, and in the Calderdale LEA. The school has specialist Arts College status.

Admissions

Todmorden High School and Visual Arts College is located in the West Yorkshire town of Todmorden. It is a six form entry, co-educational comprehensive school for 11 to 18-year-olds. Typically, students at Todmorden High School transfer to the school from one of its six feeder schools at the age of 11 or 12.

The school has 820 students on roll (approximately 120 of these students in the sixth form), 55 teaching staff members, and 80 non-teaching staff members.

Upon entry, students are placed into mixed ability tutor groups and typically remain in that group for five years of compulsory education. Usually, form tutors stay with their form throughout the school. Each year group has a head of year, who typically moves through the school with their year group. There is a separate head of Sixth Form.

Curriculum

Academically the school is divided into nine faculties, each responsible for a major area of the curriculum. The school delivers the full range of national curriculum subjects at Key Stage 3, and a range of options at Key Stage 4, including vocational courses. Post-16 the school offers a variety of ‘A’ level and vocational courses as well as an intermediate program. All students start in mixed ability teaching groups, but as students progress through the school many faculties set. There is special needs support within each faculty for students with learning difficulties.

The school offers extra-curricular activities and a High School Association. The school was first awarded IiP in 1999 and has continued to meet the standard. In September 2003 T.H.S. became a specialist college for the Visual Arts. The school is also part of the Sports Co-ordinator Scheme and has gained international school Intermediate status. The school also holds the Healthy Schools Award, and is involved with Incredible Edible. [2]
