The BBC Music Awards are the BBC's inaugural pop music awards, first held in December 2014, as a celebration of the musical achievements over the past 12 months. The live award ceremony, broadcast simultaneously across BBC One, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2, was held at London's Earl's Court on 11 December 2014 and presented by BBC Radio's Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton.[1] In its second year, it was held in Birmingham at the Genting Arena.[2] The event is coordinated by the BBC's music division, BBC Music.

Artists who performed during the first awards ceremony on 11 December 2014 included Take That, Labrinth, Ella Henderson and Catfish and the Bottlemen.[3][4] Among the winners were Ed Sheeran for British Artist of the Year, and Pharrell Williams, who picked up the awards for Best International Artist of the Year, and Single of the Year for "Happy".[5] In 2015, there will be the introduction of the award for Best Live Performance, given to an artist who delivered a "stand out live moment" on the BBC.[6]

An average audience of 3.9 million watched the ceremony live on BBC One, with a peak audience of 4.7 million at 21:00 GMT.[7]
