Army Public School (APS) is a system of public schools established for imparting education to the children of the Indian armed forces personnel. With over 130 schools throughout the country, it is one of the largest chain of schools in India that is controlled by the AWES (Army Welfare Education Society, established in 1983, and over the years has established more than 130 Army Public Schools and 240 Army Pre Primary Schools across India, and several institutions of higher education.[1]
Overview
The schools are generally managed by the army regional commands following the CBSE pattern of education. Admission is granted on a priority basis to wards of Army personnel. All Army Schools have a chairman who is a senior Indian Army officer of Brigadier rank and a patron who is of Major General rank.
The Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi is the flagship school among all the APSs in the country. The Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi has been awarded with the highest academic excellence among all the Army Public Schools in the country.
A sapling which was sown by Gen B.C. Joshi on 16 October 1993 is now a sprawling campus of 23 acres with pollution-free healthy environment. It has turned into a healthy plant and is growing well in the beautiful valley of the Pithoragarh hills. General BC Joshi Army Public School has been established under the aegis of Army Headquarters, Adjutant General's Branch, to cater to the needs of children of defence personnel including ex-service men, and to some extent to those of civilians and Non-Resident Indians. The School aims at providing quality education in an environment that ensembles the contemporary values of science and technology with our rich traditions, ideals and cultural heritage. It also ensures a judicious mix of academic competencies, physical fitness, discipline and social awareness. It prepares children for All India Secondary School Examinations and All India Senior Secondary School Examinations conducted by CBSE . Current principal of this Institution is Mr. Manish Panwar.It has four house based on the names of four chief of Army staffs of India:-
