This is a list of the United States Senators who have represented the State of New York. The date of the start of the tenure is either the first day of the legislative term (Senators who were elected regularly before the term began), or the day when they took the seat (Senators who were elected in special elections to fill vacancies, or after the term began).
Class 1 senators belong to the electoral cycle who were elected for one session of the U.S. Congress in the first election in 1789 and whose seats in recent years are contested in 1994, 2000, 2006, and 2012. The last two senators have been women.
Class 3 senators belong to the electoral cycle who were elected for one session of the U.S. Congress in the first election in 1789 and whose seats in recent years are contested in 1998, 2004, 2010, and 2016.
