Serial ; One of the best periodicals arising from the Civil War was the United States Service Magazine, edited by Professor Henry Coppee. Unlike its competitors, the Magazine added poetry, literature, art, and fiction to the usual naval and military reports. Publication ceased because it was felt that the journal was no longer needed following the War --Cf. Amercian periodicals, 1740-1900.
